Reflexology

What is it?

Reflexology is a holistic treatment based on areas and points on the feet and hands via the nervous system to corresponding areas of the body. When pressure is applied to these areas, it stimulates the movement of energy along the nerve routes and helps to restore balance in the body. With the foot there are nerve endings and each area of the foot are responsible for a reflex point leading to a certain area within the body. Reflexology uses special techniques by using the thumb and finger manipulations to stimulate reflex points, which will enhance the flow of energy to the area of the body. Therapists are trained to understand the specific reflex points within the foot and will use their knowledge to benefit the different parts of the body the reflexes are in control off.

The science behind Reflexology:

Reflexologists believe that the blockage of energy or Qi can prevent healing, reflexology is the belief that therapists can relieve stress and pain in other parts of the body through the feet, hands and ears. the pressure applied through the feet may send signals that will balance the nervous system or release healing chemicals such as endorphins that will reduce stress and pain through healing. The hands and feet have millions of nerve endings that are responsible for certain areas of the body, these are especially sensitive and are mapped throughout the whole body.
